How can you check Fake Educational Universities in India?

Our education determines our future. In the present scenario, good education paves the way for our career and financial stability in life. It will lead to the improvement of our lifestyle and society as a whole. However, the means of education has increased today, and the number of universities and colleges increase almost daily. Hence, it is relevant to check and be aware of the fake universities in India.

All the universities that are not approved by UGC are termed as fake universities. These universities have their style of functioning differently from the guidelines and principles set by the UGC. If you enrol in fake universities, it will earn you a degree of no use.

UGC is the ultimate authority of university education in India. It is a constitutional body came into being in 1956 by the act of the Indian parliament. UGC regularly checks the quality of education in all its approved universities.

As per the declaration of University Grants Commission on 01.02.2020, there are 935 approved universities in India. They are categorized as State Universities 409, deemed to be Universities 127, Central Universities 50 and Private Universities 349. They should check the name of the university they plan to study in the list of UGC accepted universities. There is no value if you pass a degree in from a fake university. Which Educational Institutions are called as Universities and award authentic degrees in India?

As per UGC norms constituted in the UGC Act of 1956, a university can award degree to students only if:

  • It is constituted under state, central or provincial Act, or
  • It is a deemed to be university under section three of the UGC Act, or
  • It is an educational institute specially empowered by a parliament Act to award a degree.

UGC Accepts Four types of Universities in India and all the degree programs, including single sitting degrees of these universities are valid India. These universities are categorized as below:

  • Central Government Universities: There are fifty central government universities in India. They are controlled and funded by the Central Government. The administration of these universities also is undertaken by the central government. Usually, every state has central government universities. Their number varies from state to state. All the fast track programs of these universities are approved by the UGC and therefore are valid.
  • State Universities: State universities are looked after by the state. Their administration and fund come from the state authorities. Now there are 349 UGC accepted state universities in India. One sitting degrees of these universities are valid in India and abroad.
  • Deemed to be University: These institutions do not have the full status of a university but rather the University Grants Commission (UGC) considers them to be fit to grant degrees. These are generally private foundations which the UGC considers to be fit as a university. Henceforth, they have the authorization to grant degrees. Indian Institute of Space, Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram is an example of deeded to be university in Kerala. These types of institutions are not fake universities. All the single sitting courses of these universities are valid.
  • Private University: Private universities in India are controlled by private organisations in India. They are UGC approved and fully functional and valid organisations. These are not fake universities. A degree in one year from these universities is valid in India. The Kerala University of Health Science is an example of UGC accepted private university.

Fake universities are unapproved universities of UGC. These universities may be providing graduate, post-graduate courses to students, but do not have UGC approval. Therefore, they are not valid. You should be aware of this peril and should not get trapped in it. You should check for the updated list of fake universities that the UGC publish from time to time. Hence, you can enrol your name for a valid fast track degree program. All the degree programs of UGC accepted universities are valid, and you can study it confidently. The degree certificates from these universities are valid for higher studies and jobs in India and aboard.
